Apple working on foldable iPhone? Expected release date and features

For research purposes, Apple recently began shipping foldable iPhones to its assembly partner Foxconn with a potential release in September 2022.

Testing requires examining the use of OLED or Micro-LED display technologies, according to the Economic Daily News, "because the choice of either screen would influence the resulting assembly methods."

Foxconn has already been asked by Apple to run over 100,000 opening and closing checks.

The study said on Tuesday, Similar tests for laptops include opening and closing between 20,000 and 30,000 times.

Since foldable phones can be folded and unfolded even more frequently than laptops, more stringent testing is also needed for the bearings within them.

It is estimated that the first foldable iPhone would deliver at least 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and could cost $1,499 for the baseline edition. Reportedly, it will be unveiled in November 2022.

This is not the first time that Apple is rumoured to be working on an iPhone model that is foldable.

Apple has purchased a shipment of foldable displays from Samsung, according to earlier news, indicating that it is working on a foldable iPhone.
